Your Spring Cleaning Checklist for a Sparkling Home

Your Spring Cleaning Checklist for a Sparkling Home

Spring is in the air! In keeping with the tradition of dusting off winter's dreariness and starting fresh, it's time for a good old-fashioned spring clean! So, throw open those drapes, let in the scent of blooming flowers, and allow us to help you revitalise your home with our spring cleaning checklist.

Decluttering Your Domain

You may be thinking to yourself "Gosh, where do I even begin?" Well, the best place to start any tidy up - from a thorough spring clean to a quick neaten up - is decluttering. The simple act of picking up the bits and bobs that have called your benchtops home since winter will get the ball rolling, making the process of cleaning feel entirely less overwhelming.

  • Grab a large box, container, or even your laundry basket and use it as a temporary home for all the pesky pieces that are not in their rightful place.
  • Keep these aside until the end of your clean up, then simply do a lap of your home and deposit each item where it's meant to be.

Give Your Kitchen a Kick-Start

Give Your Kitchen a Kick-Start

The kitchen is one of the most used rooms in the home, meaning it has the potential to become the most disorganised. With a few handy home organisation pieces and a good scrub, your kitchen will be good as new!

  • Starting with the cupboards and fridge, clear out all expired food items and decide what you will keep.
  • Wipe down the inside of your fridge and cupboard shelves with a cloth soaked in warm water and a drop of lemon essential oil.
  • Organise the remaining items by popping them back neatly. The most satisfying way to organise foods in the pantry is with a quality collection of airtight clear containers - not only can you see everything stacked neatly, but items will stay fresh for much longer.
  • Our favourite tip for jars and bottles in the fridge is to use a turntable for easy access - no more reaching right to the back for hidden containers that have gone bad!
  • Spring is a great season for fruits and veggies, keep them fresher for longer by popping some fridge balls alongside your produce in your crisper drawer.
  • For cupboards, make more room with a handy shelf to elevate your goods and double up on functional space.
  • A great trick for washing your rangehood filters is to run them through the dishwasher for a deep clean.
  • Disinfect all your surfaces and wipe down the sink with a slice of lemon.
  • For an extra kick if your drain is prone to getting blocked, sprinkle some baking soda then a splash of vinegar. Let it sit for a few minutes then rinse it all down with warm water.

Level Up the Laundry

The laundry is where things go to get cleaned, but sometimes we can forget that this space also needs some tidying of its own!

  • Start by emptying out the lint filters of your dryer and washing machine, this will ensure all your clothes are getting the best clean possible.
  • Place all dirty laundry in a vertical laundry hamper to maximise floor space. Selecting one with a lid will allow you to easily hide away clothes for a more organised look.
  • If you don't have the room to keep a permanent laundry basket, a great alternative is a collapsible style. This allows you to store it away when not in use.
  • Reorganise bottles of laundry liquid and cleaning products, taking note of what goods to stock up on.

Beautify the Bedrooms and Living Areas

We love lounging in these spaces, now it's time to bring them back to life with a spruce up of surfaces and linens.

  • Take off all pillowcases, sheets and blankets and run them through the wash for a spring-time refresh.
  • Evaluate your seasonal wardrobe pieces and move items that you are most likely to wear in the warmer months to easily accessible areas.
  • Pack away your heavy winter coats until next year by storing in hanging vacuum garment bags to save a stack of wardrobe space.
  • Once all your areas are tidied, give everything a thorough dust - from tabletops to the tops of appliances and in between blinds.
  • After the dust has settled, it's time for the final finishes with a versatile stick vacuum that can be used to suck up dirt from not only carpets, but walls and furniture too.
  • If you're wondering how to clean rugs that have developed a musty smell, sprinkle over some baking soda and distribute it evenly with a soft brush. Once it's been sitting for around half an hour, take a powerful upright vacuum to eliminate the soda and odour!
  • The same goes for how to clean curtains - simply run your vacuum over drapes from top to bottom to remove build-up of dust and grime.

Congratulations, you've reached the end of our spring cleaning checklist! After implementing these tips you'll be ready to enjoy the warmer months in a fuss-free and fresh home. Visit our website for more home organisation helpers that will make your spring cleaning a breeze!
