Four Wonderful Family Air Fryer Recipes

Four Wonderful Family Air Fryer Recipes

An air fryer is a fantastic boon in the kitchen when it comes to cooking faster and healthier food for the family. Quick and easy meals that cut down on fat compared to store-bought or restaurant versions are welcome at any table. And they make for indulgent mid-week meals, or weekend family treats, that everyone will enjoy.

Air fryer hacks are easy to find online, but it's worth knowing how your machine works before you start. Read through the instruction manual, place your machine safely away from the wall and other kitchen clutter when in use, and preference oils with a higher smoke point (like avocado oil) in your cooking. You may also want to invest in a spray bottle for oil, meaning you'll use less over all and really make the most of the air fryer's capacity for tasty low-fat cooking.

Here are some of our favourite air fryer recipes that do just that - with healthier versions of indulgent treats perfect for winter cooking.

Looking for tasty meals that will satisfy the whole family? We're here to help.

Favourite Air Fryer Recipes

Air Fryer Meatballs

A fun and hearty addition to any family meal. Serve with tomato-based sauce over pasta for a main meal or combine with sliced tomato, rocket and cheese for simple gourmet sandwiches. Add a dipping sauce and they're great as party snacks, too.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 large zucchini
  • 450g minced meat (chicken, pork or beef)
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tbsp chilli flakes
  • 2 tbsp fresh chopped parsley
  • 1/2 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Salt and pepper

INSTRUCTIONS

Finely grate zucchini into a mesh strainer. Sprinkle on some salt and gently press with fingers to drain the excess liquid.

In a mixing bowl, combine minced meat, garlic powder, chilli flakes, parsley, oregano, egg and drained zucchini. Mix with a wooden spoon.

Using a melon baller, or two small spoons, form mixture into 16 small balls, each around 2.5cm across.

Cooking in batches, place meatballs in the air fryer, making sure to leave at least 1cm space around each one.

Cook at 200C for 10 to 12 minutes per batch. Halfway through the cook time, turn or shake the meatballs to ensure they're evenly cooked.

Air Fryer Pizza

Each family member can assemble their own pizza with this batch-cooking process, or just taste test different flavours as they come. For an even quicker pizza, tomato paste on its own will do for sauce. Excess dough can also be stored in the freezer.

INGREDIENTS

Pizza dough

  • 7g package active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp white sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt

Pizza sauce

  • 1/2 cup tomato paste
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp white sugar
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic, finely minced
  • 1 tbsp water
  • Pinch each of dried parsley, basil and oregano

Pizza toppings

Try classic combinations, such as:

  • Mozzarella and fresh basil
  • Sliced mushrooms and garlic
  • Prosciutto and rocket
  • Potato and rosemary
  • Ham, artichoke, mushrooms and olives
  • Black olives, anchovies and capers

INSTRUCTIONS

To prepare the pizza dough, dissolve yeast and sugar into warm water in a medium bowl. Let the mixture stand until creamy - this will take about 10 minutes.

Stir in flour, salt and oil, then beat until smooth. Let the mixture rest for another 5 minutes.

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat into round. Depending on how thick you like your pizza base and how large your air fryer is, this should be enough for 3 to 4 personal-sized pizzas.

To make the pizza sauce, combine all ingredients and mix well.

To assemble pizza, roll out dough on a lightly floured surface, making sure base is small enough to fit in your air fryer, with at least 1cm space around the edges. This ensures the air can circulate and cook your pizza to perfection. Transfer base to air fryer.

Spoon over pizza sauce and spread thinly across the dough.

Sprinkle over pizza toppings - the key is to be generous without overloading. When making in batches, experiment with different toppings for each pizza. Everyone can have their favourite!

Cook at 190C for around 7 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and any cheese has melted.

Serve with fresh green salad.

Air fryer Chicken Parma

This classic pub meal gets a healthier makeover thanks to the air fryer. Serve with steamed vegetables and mashed potato for a quick and hearty family treat. Or for the full pub-grub taste, green salad and French fries.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated, plus more to taste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp crushed chilli flakes
  • 4 chicken cutlets
  • 1/2 cup plain flour
  • 6 tbsp fresh tomato sauce or bottled passata
  • 200g mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

Start by beating eggs with a touch of salt and pepper. In a separate shallow bowl, combine plain breadcrumbs, panko bread crumbs, 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese, oregano and chilli flakes.

Season cutlets with salt and pepper, then cover with flour, before shaking off excess.

Run each cutlet through the egg mixture, then hold over the liquid to let any excess fall back into the bowl.

Gently press the chicken into the breadcrumb mixture, turning it over to coat evenly.

Arrange the cutlets in air fryer basket, leaving at least 1cm between pieces. Depending on the size of the air fryer, you may need to cook in batches.

Air fry at 200C for 6 minutes on each side.

Top with tomato-based sauce, sliced mozzarella cheese and a final sprinkle of grated parmesan before returning to the air fryer for a further 3 minutes - until the cheese melts.

INSTRUCTIONS

Place cookies in a small oven-proof dish (a ramekin or silicone baking mould will do), and cover with milk.
