What's your body shape?

What's your body shape?

Apple, pear, strawberry, hourglass, column? No, we aren't talking about food or inanimate objects. We're talking about your body shape. That's right ladies; if you know how to dress to suit your body shape then you are on the right track to looking a million dollaroonies.

So what is your shape? Let's take a look at the main characteristics of your body shape and what will look best on you.

APPLES, you tend to have a fuller middle with an undefined waist, yet are mostly in proportion. You have slimmer legs and bottom and a fabulous bust.

The key for apples is to show off your legs and to draw the eyes upwards, away from your waist. Skinny jeans or pants will show off your killer pins and v-neck tops or tops that drape from the shoulders will draw attention to your neckline.

PEARS, you have curvaceous hips and bottom with a smaller bust and shoulders and a fairly flat stomach. This is the most common body shape among women.

Show off your womanly figure by accentuating your body from your waist up. Add ruffles or bold colours, stripes, lapels or sleeves to your outfit. The aim is to balance out your bottom half by drawing attention to the top.

STRAWBERRIES, have a body that is larger up top compared to their bottom half. This means broader shoulders or a bigger bust in comparison to their waist, hips and legs.

Draw attention to your bottom half by wearing wide leg trousers, bootcut jeans, or a fuller skirt. Don't be afraid of bright, bold stripes or colour on your bottom half. Go simple up top. You girls are going to have to miss out on the shoulder pad craze.

HOURGLASS, shaped women, you lucky things, have equally curvy bust and hips with a defined waist.

Your main aim is to show off your waist, while still accentuating your curves. Wrap dresses and waist-cinching belts should be your best friends. Don't wear shapeless or baggy tops that hide your silhouette and always remember your curves were made for dresses, so flaunt it!

COLUMN, women have a straight body. Your bust and hips are usually well balanced (some column women may have a big bust) and you have little or no waist. People would kill for your body and although you may sometimes wish you had more curves, you can create the illusion quite easily.

Stick to styles of clothing that have more shape such as dresses with short sleeves, a low neckline and frills and ruffles. Your shape was made for pants so go for your life when choosing jeans or trousers.

SIZE 16+ women follow the normal shape rules for your body but be careful with colours, stripes and embellishments. Don't rule them out completely but flatter your shape with correct placement. Vertical stripes and dark colours will always compliment your body shape more but add colour to your outfit through your accessories with a bright bag, jewellery or shoes. We stock Tania Kay Sizes 16-24 at Harris Scarfe so no more ill-fitting clothing for you gals.
