Top Tips for your microwave

Top Tips for your microwave

Have you ever considered how you can utilize your microwave to not only heat & reheat food, but also to change the texture of foods, or to only slightly change the temperature of your food to create a more enjoyable snack experience?

Examples

  • Add Blood Orange juice (an Italian brand such Succo Rosso – look for the 1ltr Blue carton), to whole, hulled strawberries to just cover.  Heat in the microwave on high for 90 secs to 2 mins.  What will result is a warm fruit that tastes remarkably like rhubarb, without all the work!!  And, better still, is marvelously good for you.  Just add a dollop of your favorite vanilla yoghurt or light Philadelphia and dessert is served.
  • If you are preparing a snacks platter with crudités for dip, try zapping your celery and carrot sticks in the microwave for 20 seconds.  This will remove the fridge chill from your crudités and also enhance their flavour.
  • Fruit cake heated in the microwave for 30 secs is an excellent substitute for Christmas pudding!
  • Drain the juice from tinned pineapple pieces, mandarin and grapefruit segments.  Add a tin of passionfruit.  Mix in a ceramic bowl, cover and heat for 2 minutes.  Stir gently and then enjoy this lovely hot, juicy, fruity mix to top ice cream, individual sponge cakes or to eat on its own.  Delicious, sweet and good for you.
