Suck it up with the right Vacuum

Suck it up with the right Vacuum

Did you know that most people buy a vacuum cleaner once every 7 years?  Buying the right vacuum cleaner is essential to the cleaniness of your home, so it is important to choose well.

Crucial to your choice should be the dictum that ‘good suction equals good pick up equals a quality vacuum experience’. (Thanks Dyson!!)

There are a number of considerations when choosing your vacuum.  The most important are:

  • What type of floors do you have?  This will help decide on the floor tool required to give you the best clean.
  • Do you want to spend less on your machine and more on the ongoing costs of bags, accessories etc OR invest in a quality bagless machine such as a Dyson?  Consider the benefits for both scenarios from a long term perspective.  For example, if you are prepared to outlay the proportionally larger cost for a Dyson, you will be rewarded long term with the ease of being able to enjoy your vacuum without needing to continually buy replacement items to keep it working to it’s full capacity.
  • Do you have pets? You will need to consider a vaccum that has a specific function or tool to combat that irritating pet hair build up.
  • Does anyone in your family suffer from allergies?  You will need to consider the type of filter system that the vacuum utilizes.  Will it be sufficient for your sensitive family?

Top Tips

  • Look for a cleaner that works properly, has excellent pick up, great filtration and importantly NO loss of suction.
  • Look for a cleaner that expels clean air – this will depend on the quality of the filtration.
  • Look for a cleaner that doesn’t require unnecessarily expensive ongoing costs for filter and bag replacements.
  • Ensure you select the right cleaner to suit your needs and home environment, ie floors, size of residence, presence of pets, allergies etc..
  • Don’t forget that you can utilize your ‘on board tools’ to clean blinds, mattresses - you would be surprised what you can pick up!

When looking for a vacuum cleaner, some important things to consider are:

  • A long cord length, i.e. 9m plus - means less plugging and unplugging!
  • Low noise level - so you can vacuum any time of the day or night without disturbing others
  • HEPA filtration - to capture micro-particles for cleaner air and healthier home environment
  • Washable HEPA filter that is in a plastic frame - so you can rinse it easily without getting your hands dirty
  • A nozzle which picks up dirt from the front and sides - so you don’t just push the dirt along
  • A Turbo pet hair nozzle - makes it easier to pick up pet hair and provides deep down carpet cleaning and grooming
  • Soft ride wheels - to help protect your hard floor surfaces
  • Lightweight construction - so it’s easy to carry and store
  • On bagless vacuums, a lightweight and very easily accessible dust container – to make it easy to empty
